Sri SriVidyaMandir (SSVM) Matriculation School was established in 2007. This English medium school was initiated as a part of the tsunami relief efforts. Donors from USA and Netherlands helped build this school through the Art of Living Foundation and International Association for Human Values.

The school is located in Anaikoil, approximately seven kilometers from Thirukkadaiyur, a temple town in the Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu. It caters to 620 students most of whom come from families involved in fishing or farming. The school has 44 teachers and 18 non-teaching staff. The students receive ample attention from the teachers, given that the student-teacher ratio is 1:28; even 2:28 in some cases.

SSVM follows the Montessori Methodology for pre-primary students (3-6 year old students). There are also well-equipped labs for science and mathematics, which aid in experiential learning. Some of the classrooms are planned and maintained to be subject-specific, to enhance learning and retention. Yoga and sports facilities are also maintained for physical development. The school encourages co-curricular programs like vocal music, guitar, dance, arts, crafts and computers. The students are served porridge in the mornings and around 420 students (kindergarten to class five) are provided with lunch as well. The school also has a local farm that supplies vegetables to the school kitchen.

Given the importance that the Shriram Foundation gives to equipping the students with vocational training, the school provides elective subjects of welding, electrical and tailoring for standards eight to ten. The training is provided in collaboration with the Shriram School of Vocational Education. 

The running expenses, including teachers’ salaries and other everyday maintenance expenses of the school are funded by the Shriram Foundation. The Foundation is also a part of the school’s governing committee and is involved in the major decisions related to school’s development.
