Math modeling workshop
“Life is beautiful only for two things, one is for discovering mathematics and the other for teaching mathematics.”
These were the words of Mr.Satyanarayana Sharma, a retired Maths teacher, who conducted Math modeling workshops in two different schools in Krishna District. These two schools, Shoghi High School, Nunna and Srividya School, Dharmajigudem are part of the Mission-100 Project of Shriram Foundation. In order to make Maths learning fun and interactive, we had approached Mr.Sharma to conduct his programs in our high schools.
These workshops which were day-long programs engaged children of classes 8 and 9, to make models on various mathematical concepts, like the Area of circle, Napier rods, algebraic formulae and so on. After the students completed the model making, Mr.Sharma explained the concepts to each of the groups. These students then demonstrated their models to the other students. The students enjoyed learning and teaching Mathematics hands-on.
